Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you might want to know before you stir it in.

About the product

What is in Seeds of Greatness?

Five ingredients: pumpkin seeds, walnuts, chia seeds, hemp hearts, and ground golden flaxseed. Nothing else.

Is there any added sugar, oil, or salt?

No. No sugar, oil, salt, preservatives, or flavorings. Just the five ingredients.

Is Seeds of Greatness organic?

We use certified organic ingredients, but Add Good Foods isn't USDA certified organic yet, so we can't call the finished product organic.

What does it taste like?

Mild, nutty, and slightly earthy. Every bite has a crunch. It takes on the flavor of whatever you mix it with.

Is the flaxseed whole or ground?

Ground, and cold-milled. Whole flaxseed mostly passes through undigested, so you don't get much from it. Milling makes the omega-3s and nutrients available to your body. Cold-milling uses no heat, which means fewer of those delicate fats are damaged in the process, and the flax stays fresher than heat-milled flax.

What's the difference between the 1oz and 2oz bags?

Same mix, two sizes. The 1oz (30g) is an everyday serving. The 2oz (59g) is for a bigger appetite and has a zipper so you can close it between servings. Often people start with the 1oz and move up to the 2oz to add more fiber, protein, and minerals to their day. If you’re not used to much fiber, start with the smaller size and drink plenty of water.

Nutrition

What's the nutrition per serving?

A 1oz (30g) serving has 170 calories, 7g protein, 4g fiber, and 14g fat, most of it unsaturated. It's also an excellent source of copper (45% DV), manganese (50% DV), and magnesium (30% DV), with zinc (15% DV), iron (10% DV), and selenium (10% DV).  The 2oz (59g) serving doubles it: 330 calories, 13g protein, and 8g fiber.  Full nutrition panel is on the product page.

What are the health benifits

Each 1oz (30g) serving has 4g of fiber, which supports digestion and helps you feel full, and 7g of plant protein to keep you satisfied between meals.  It also delivers 30% of your daily magnesium, which supports muscle and nerve function and energy metabolism, 45% DV copper and 50% DV manganese, which support energy production and help protect cells from oxidative damage, and 15% DV zinc for normal immune function.  Most of the fat is unsaturated, the kind dietary guidelines recommend in place of saturated fat. It's a whole-food add-on, not a medicine, so we don't claim it treats or prevents any condition.

Is it keto, paleo, or vegan?

Vegan and paleo, yes. Keto-friendly at 2g net carbs per 1oz (30g) serving. It also works for a Whole30.  It's just nuts and seeds, with nothing added.

Allergens & Safety

What allergens does Seeds of Greatness contain?

Tree nuts (walnuts).

Is it made in a facility with other allergens?

We pack in a licensed commercial kitchen shared with other food businesses, using our own dedicated equipment that only ever touches our ingredients.

Is it gluten-free?

All five ingredients are naturally gluten-free. We don't test the finished product, so we don't carry a certified gluten-free label.

Can kids eat it?

Yes. Our kids eat it too. It's just nuts and seeds, with nothing added. For kids under 4, grind it or blend it into smoothies or oatmeal, since whole nuts can be a choking hazard. It contains walnuts, so introduce it like any other tree nut. Smaller kids need a smaller portion than the 1oz (30g) serving.

Is it safe to eat during pregnancy?

These are common whole foods, but check with your provider about anything new in your diet during pregnancy.

Storage and Freshness

How long does it stay fresh?

About 6 months.

Does it need to be refrigerated?

No. A cool, dry cupboard is fine. Nuts and seeds are rich in delicate fats, so keep it out of heat and direct sunlight. The fridge or freezer will keep it fresh even longer if you want to stock up.

Can I freeze it?

Yes. It freezes well and you can eat it straight from frozen, no thawing needed.

How do I know if it’s gone bad?

Smell it. Fresh, it smells mild and nutty. Rancid nuts smell bitter, sharp, or like paint. Rancid nuts won’t taste good and have lost much of their omega-3 benefit, so toss them.

How to use it

How do I eat it?

Most people stir it into yogurt, kefir, or oatmeal. It’s also good in smoothies and protein shakes, on salads or avocado toast, rolled into energy bites, or baked into cookies and muffins.

Can I bake with it?

Yes. It works in muffins, bread, granola, and energy bites. Baking breaks down some of the omega-3s, but the fiber, protein, and minerals come through fine. Bake with it freely, and eat it raw when you want the most out of the fats.

Do I need to soak the seeds first?

It can be eaten dry or soaked, whichever you prefer. If you eat it dry, drink water with it, since chia and flax take on liquid.
